Lot and Land Clearing in Framingham

Partially cleared wooded backyard lot in North Framingham ready for an addition

Plenty of Framingham properties back up to woods, and a lot of them have a back third that has gone wild over the years. Bittersweet vines, buckthorn, dead pines and young maples fill in fast. We clear it back so you can use the space again, or get it ready for an addition, garage, pool, driveway or solar array.

Selective or full clearing

Most homeowners do not want everything gone. We walk the area with you and flag the trees worth keeping, usually healthy oaks and the better maples. Then we take out the dead trees, the invasives and the crowded saplings around them. The result looks like a cleaned-up woodlot, not a construction site.

For building projects, full clearing of the footprint is often needed. We coordinate with your builder or excavator on the limits of work, and we can grind stumps or leave them for the excavator to pull, depending on what they want.

Wetlands and conservation land

Framingham has a lot of water. Lake Cochituate, Farm Pond, the Sudbury River, and many small brooks and wetlands run through neighborhoods. Work close to wetlands, ponds and streams usually needs approval from the Framingham Conservation Commission first. Clearing within the buffer zone without it can bring fines and replanting orders. If your project is near water, check with the Conservation Commission before we schedule, and we will work within whatever conditions they set.

Solar clearing

Solar installers often ask homeowners to remove trees on the south side of the house before panels go up. We can take down only the trees that shade the roof, based on the installer's shade report, and leave the rest of the yard alone.

What is included

Clearing jobs include cutting, chipping brush, and hauling or stacking the wood. Stump grinding, brush mowing and loam and seed can be added. On larger jobs, we can leave chips on site to spread on trails or beds. Every clearing job gets a written estimate that spells out the area, what stays, and what goes.

Common Questions

Do I need a permit to clear trees on my lot?
Clearing on private land away from wetlands usually does not need a permit. Work near ponds, streams or wetlands often needs Conservation Commission approval, and building projects may have conditions on their permits. Check before work starts.
Can you clear just the invasive brush?
Yes. Selective clearing of buckthorn, bittersweet and other invasives while keeping good trees is one of our most common clearing jobs.
What happens to the wood?
We haul it away, or cut it to firewood length and stack it if you want to keep it. Brush is chipped, and chips can be left on site if you have a use for them.
