How Much Does Tree Removal Cost in Framingham?

Tree trunk cut into sections on a lawn after a removal in Framingham

By the crew at Framingham Tree Service. Updated October 2026.

We get this question on almost every call. The honest answer is that it depends on the tree, and we cannot give a firm price over the phone. But we can tell you what typical jobs run around Framingham, so you know what to expect before we come out.

Typical price ranges

These are rough ranges for MetroWest work. They are not quotes. Your price comes in writing after we see the tree.

JobTypical range
Small tree removal (under 30 ft, open access)$300 to $800
Medium tree removal (30 to 60 ft)$800 to $1,800
Large tree removal (60 ft and up)$1,800 to $4,500
Large tree over a house, crane or heavy rigging$3,500 and up
Pruning a mature shade tree$400 to $1,500
Stump grinding, single stump$150 to $450
Emergency or after-hours storm workPriced by the job, usually higher than scheduled work

What raises the price

  • What is underneath. A tree over a roof, a deck, a pool or a power drop has to come down in small pieces on ropes. That takes more time and more people.
  • Access. If we cannot get a bucket truck or chipper close, everything gets carried out by hand. Backyards behind fenced, sloped or tight lots in Framingham often fall in this group.
  • Condition. Dead trees, especially dead ash and pine, can be brittle and unsafe to climb. Those may need a bucket truck or crane, which adds cost.
  • Size of the wood. A big oak trunk weighs several tons. Hauling it costs more than hauling a pine of the same height.

What lowers it

  • Keeping the wood. If you want firewood, we cut it to length and leave it, which saves hauling.
  • Bundling work. Two or three trees on one visit cost less per tree than separate trips.
  • Grinding the stump the same day instead of scheduling it later.
  • Scheduling outside of storm season, when crews are not stretched thin.

Comparing estimates

When you get more than one price, make sure the estimates cover the same work. Ask whether cleanup, wood hauling and stump grinding are included. Ask for proof of insurance. A low price from someone without liability and workers' comp coverage can cost you much more if something goes wrong on your property.

We give every customer a written estimate that lists each tree, what we will do, and what is included. Call us or request an estimate online.

Common Questions

Do you charge for estimates?
No. Estimates are free and in writing.
Is stump grinding included in the removal price?
Not unless the estimate says so. We list stump grinding as a separate line so you can choose. Most customers add it.
Why do tree prices vary so much between companies?
Differences in insurance, equipment, crew size and what is included, like cleanup and hauling, all affect price. Compare estimates line by line.
